accident thromboembolic

Accident which results from the obstruction (embolism) of a blood-vessel by a clot (thrombus).
The vessel can be an artery: it is then about an arterial embolism, which causes an ischaemia (deprivation of oxygenated blood) in the area that this artery irrigated. A serious ischaemia leads to dead of private oxygen fabrics: infarction. Fortunately, in many cases, a close artery makes it possible to avoid the infarction while bringing blood oxygenated in the area victim of ischaemia.
The heart is irrigated by the coronary arteries which have the property to be little connected between them, which explains the gravity of a coronary accident thromboembolic: part of the cardiac muscle, the myocardium, is destroyed (myocardial infarction).
The obstruction of a vein is less serious, because the veins ensure the return of blood charged with carbonic gas towards the heart. The obstruction of a vein is generally called thrombophlébite. The gravity of a thrombophlébite, or phlebitis, is due to the possibility for a clot of being detached from the vein and of being carried by venous blood to the heart. After having crossed the right auricle and the ventricle right, this clot will penetrate in a pulmonary artery and will block a blood-vessel, causing a pulmonary embolism and a pulmonary infarction.
