Acne: potential of the omega-3 put at the day
The acne is one of the problems of skin by far among most widespread. The psychological repercussions are numerous and the mechanisms in the beginning are, at present, still badly known. A preliminary study underlines the interest of the fatty-acids omega-3.

Several studies evaluated the effect of various nutrients (zinc, selenium, vitamin E, épigallocatéchine-gallate (EGCG), chromium…) on occurred and progression of the acne, and the epidemiologic evidence on the effect of food factors is increasingly numerous (index glycemic, products of the sea…). In short, which we eat can influence directly the flowering of these blasted buttons!

Sardine and the green

Within the framework of a pilot study, researchers evaluated the effect of a supplement containing of the omega-3 (1000 mg/j of anchovy and sardine EPA), of zinc gluconate (15 mg/j), of selenium (200 microg/j), chromium (200 microg/j) and the green EGCG of the (200 mg/j) in 5 young men and acneic young girls old from 18 to 23 years. The skin and the psychological state of these patients were evaluated at the beginning and the end of the supplementation (2 months afterwards).

Less cutaneous lesions

The consumption of the supplement exerted a positive effect on the full number of cutaneous lesions (buttons of acne on the face) at 4 of the 5 subjects (11 to 41 lesions in less at the end of 2 months), passing the median number of lesions from 62.8 to 40.4 at the whole of the subjects.
It seems that it is the inflammatory component which was reduced, like it showed the photographs of the lesions (size of the inflammatory papules and redness) and the number of inflammatory lesions (20.8 vs 6.8 at the end of 2 months).
The felt psychological one of the patients was also improved by the supplementation, as the results with test AIOS (Arizona Integrative Outcomes Scale) reveal it. The mental, emotional and social wellbeing was thus increased by 24%.

Omega-3 and anti-inflammatory drugs effects

Even if the observation of these patients remains suggestive, the track of the omega-3, in combination with other nutrients, proves to be useful to dig. They could exert a favorable effect on the inflammatory acneic lesions like on certain aspects of the mental wellbeing.
It is from now on necessary to undertake studies randomized as a double-blind man on a more important sample of patients in order to confirm the good performances observed in this pilot study. While waiting, a good attitude for the boutonneux teenagers is perhaps, already, to eat a little more fish…
