Composition of drug ACT-HIB
p syringes
Polyoside Haemophilus influenzae standard B combined with the tetanic protein 10 μg
Haemophilus influenzae standard B polysaccharide
In which case drug ACT-HIB is it prescribes?
It is a vaccine made up of fragments of germs of Haemophilus influenzae standard B. It does not contain any alive germ.
It is used in the prevention of the serious infections due to the Haemophilus influenzae standard B, meningitides and epiglottitises in particular.
Caution
In the event of raised fever, of acute disease, it is preferable to differ vaccination. Nevertheless, of banal rhinopharyngites do not justify the catch of delay in the infantile program of vaccination.
As for all the vaccines, of the exceptional cases of serious allergic reactions were noted; this risk justifies the need for carrying out vaccination in medical environment where an emergency treatment could be undertaken without delay.
The presence of a tetanic protein in the composition of the vaccine does not involve protection against tetanus; it is intended to support the action of the vaccine antihaemophilus.
Pregnancy and breast feeding
This vaccine is intended to the young child and is not used during the pregnancy.
Directions for use and posology of drug ACT-HIB
The injection must be realized by subcutaneous or intramuscular way.
It can be coupled or not with other infantile vaccinations.
Usual posology:
Infant of less than 6 months: 3 injections carried out with 1 or 2 months of interval, followed by a recall one year after the 3rd injection.
Infant from 6 to 12 months: 2 injections carried out 1 month from interval, followed by one recall to the 18 months age.
Child from 1 to 5 years: 1 only injection.
The Councils
The feverish reactions due to the vaccines can be fought with paracetamol.
To keep its effectiveness, this drug must be preserved between + 2 °C and + 8 °C (left coldest the refrigerator). However, a rupture of the low temperature during one limited time (a few hours with room temperature lower than 25 °C) should not lend to consequence. In practice, in the event of need, a time of a few hours can separate the purchase from the vaccine in pharmacy from its storage to the refrigerator or vaccination.
This vaccine should not be frozen.
Possible undesirable effects of drug ACT-HIB
Reactions at the point of injection.
Fever moderated during 1 or 2 days especially in the event of simultaneous vaccination with another vaccine.

LEXICON
epiglottitis
Serious infection of the throat, which occurs in the child and can cause a smothering. It is due to a particular germ: Haemophilus influenzae, standard B. It is different from the simple laryngitis, which can also cause breathing difficulties.
germinate
General term which indicates all the microscopic organizations likely to cause an infection: bacteria, virus, parasites, mushrooms.
IM
Abbreviation of intramuscular. See this term.
meningitis
Ignition due generally to an infection of the external envelopes of the brain called meninges. Meningitides can be due to a virus; their evolution is generally favorable. Certain bacteria, such as the méningocoque one, the Haemophilus influenzae of the type B, can be responsible for serious meningitides likely to leave after-effects. It is necessary to think of a meningitis in the event of a permanent headache with nauseas, an high fever and an unusual state of prostration in a child: an urgent medical examination is then necessary. Fortunately, in the majority of the cases, it is about a banal influenza.
allergic reaction
Reaction due to the over-sensitiveness of the organization to a drug. The allergic reactions can take very varied aspects: urticaria, edema of Quincke, eczema, eruption of buttons pointing out measles, etc the shock anaphylactic is a generalized allergic reaction which causes a faintness by sharp decline of the blood-pressure.
rhinopharyngitis
Ignition of the high part of the pharynx, located behind nose and above the velum. Its origin can be viral or bacterial.
SC
Abbreviation of subcutaneous. See this term.
vaccine
Injectable solution intended to immunize the organization against a virus or a bacterium.
There exist several kinds of vaccines:
Attenuated alive vaccines: the germ contained in the vaccine is alive, but unable to cause disease (BCG, measles, rubella, mumps, etc).
Vaccines prepared starting from fragments of killed germs: the parts more immunizing virus or bacterium are used to prepare the vaccine (vaccines against the polio, hepatitises, etc).
Vaccines containing of neutralized toxins (inactivated): in the case of tetanus, it is a toxin secreted by the germ which is responsible for the gravity of the disease; the vaccine allows the immunization against this toxin.
sees
Chemin (route of administration) used to manage the drugs: way oral, sublingual, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intradermal, transdermic.
Together of hollow bodies allowing the passage of the air (respiratory tracts), the food (digestive tracts), the urines (urinary tracts), the bile (bile ducts), etc
