After the rhinitis: asthma!

After the rhinitis: asthma!

You tend to sneeze at each pollinic season for example? It is certainly about a rhinitis, but the symptoms do not obstruct you yet sufficiently to go to consult your doctor. It is a wrong, because you have 3,5 times more risks to develop an asthma later on.

The rhinitis allergic corresponds to an over-sensitiveness to the allergens (dust, pollens, acarina, moulds, hairs of cat) which results in a nose which runs, of the frequent and repetitive sneezes, an obstruction and/or itchings nasal.
The similarity of the two diseases, the rhinitis and asthma, led the researchers to analyze their relations.
Indeed, rhinitis and asthma correspond to an excessive immune reaction against an allergen present in the air. Concerning the rhinitis, this reaction touches only the higher air routes: nose, the mouth and the pharynx, from where the traditional symptoms (nose which runs or stopped, sneezes). In the case of asthma, the immune reaction touches the lower respiratory tracts (bronchi, air cells, etc) and involves a reduction in the respiratory capacity, awkward, handicapping and dangerous.

During this study, nearly 6.500 people originating in 14 European countries and old from 20 to 44 years were followed during 9 years. Whereas all the participants were unscathed of any episode of asthma at the time of recruitment, it is noted that the people who are reached of an allergic rhinitis see their risk to develop an asthma multiplied by 3,5 compared to those which do not make rhinitis. The not-allergic rhinitis constitutes also a predictive factor of asthma, since the subjects reached of this affection have 2,7 times more risks to become asthmatic.

The relation between rhinitis and asthma is very strong. It is probable that after the inhalation of allergens, the nasal ignition supports the migration of the inflammatory mediators in blood circulation and fabrics, and in particular on the level of the bronchi.

To diagnose the rhinitis to control asthma

It is thus important to diagnose a rhinitis in order to reinforce the monitoring and to detect an asthma beginning, easier to control. On the other hand, to affirm that the treatment of the rhinitis makes it possible to prevent or to delay occurred of an asthma is premature. However, it is known that to treat the rhinitis allows to better control the symptoms of asthma at the asthmatic people.
At all events, it should be retained that it is important to control asthma because it is a grave disease.
