Your food against the cancer of the prostate
The food plays a part in cancers in general. Can one use it to minimize his risk to suffer from a cancer of the prostate? Which ingredients are to be avoided or privilege to this end?
Animal greases and red meat to limit
Several studies highlight an important correlation between the consumption of animal greases and the growth of the cancer of the prostate and the mortality of the continuations of this disease. The mechanisms are not known, but certain assumptions suggest an influence of greases on the hormones and the production of radicals libres*. In addition, small quantity of ingredients anticancerigenes appearing in a food rich in animal greases, and the carcinogenic influence associated with cooking at high temperature of the meat, could play a part.
Against the cancer of the prostate, attention to the calcium excess
Sufficient calcium contributions are essential to form and preserve bones of good quality. However, a calcium excessive consumption could increase the cancer risk of the prostate: beyond calcium 2.000mg per day (calcium 2g/j).
This effect could be due to the fact that the calcium ingestion is accompanied by a fall of vitamin D in the organization. Thus is allotted to the vitamin D a protective effect against cancer of the prostate.
Deprive of vitamin D
Certain studies undertaken in laboratory showed that the vitamin D is able to inhibit the growth of the cells of this type of cancer.
Knowing that the vitamin D is one of the rare vitamins being able to be manufactured by the organization (others being exclusively brought by the food) under the effect of the sun, that could explain why the men which live in the more cold countries and thus where there is less of sunning, are more prone to the cancer of the prostate.
Moreover, into growing old, the organization manufactures less vitamin D, perhaps contributing to increase the risk of this type of cancer with the projection in age.
Deprive of certain antioxydants
According to some studies, some antioxydants* (vitamin E and selenium) could protect from the cancer of the prostate.
In conclusion, even if some of these data deserve to be confirmed by new studies, one can recommend in cancer prevention of the prostate, not to consume much red meat, to limit animal greases (butter, margarine, pork-butcheries, meats fatty…), to increase its consumption of fruit and vegetables (sources of antioxydants) and to expose themselves more to the light radiations: external exits, sports, gardening…
Let us notice that, generally, these councils are valid for the prevention of other cancers and the cardiovascular diseases. The benefit is thus maximum.
* Our cells produce energy starting from oxygen and of the food which we consume, but they leave derrières they pollutants called free radicals, which are toxic. To defend oneself, the organization has agents which neutralize the free radicals effectively, they are the antioxydants.
