To keep the form/The point on drinks with the last style
The best athletes, the sportsmen of Sunday and accustomed nightclubs sporting drinks and énergisantes – but do they obtain raffolent really a whiplash?
Lola O’ Rourke, dietetist in Seattle, known as that the “functional” drinks supposedly which promise to increase the endurance and clearness with floods, result from an hype – and could to even harm you and not to help itself.
Here, O’ Rourke gives a progress report on these overflowing drinks of energy.
Sporting drinks, drinks énergisantes – which is the difference?
The sporting drinks like Gatorade and Powerade reload the body by replacing the materials which the muscles used during the physical exercise. They are conceived for the athletes who wish to restock their body after an important physical-activity, but they are also sails about it among the average consumers.
Drinks énergisantes like Rockstar, Full Throttle and Cocaine, contain stimulants of which the use is licit like cafeine, of glucids, grasses, sometimes of sugar, and they are marketing for the teenagers, of the students and the sporting players.
Which ingredients should we seek?
The sporting drinks generally contain sugar, water and electrolytes (which contain sodium, potassium, phosphate, calcium and magnesium). O’ Rourke advises us to choose those which have a lower sugar content.
The drinks énergisantes contain usually cafeine, sometimes sugar, amino-acids like the taurine and of grasses like the guarana, the ginseng and the ginkgo biloba – some of these ingredients are better known than others. According to the dietetist, our choice should go on drinks having a lower content cafeine and should carry out a research to us on the ingredients before consuming the drinks which contain them.
Who should consume them?
The best athletes who produce an intense physical effort for one prolonged period can benefit from sporting drinks admits O’ Rourke, but the athletes of Sunday and the consumers average do not need any to be occupied with their daily occupations.
Until more information are obtained on the ingredients which support the promotion of the drinks énergisantes, it is preferable to avoid them or to consume them with moderation, O’ Rourke advises.
Which risks do they present?
The athletes who count much on sporting drinks could poison themselves and to make itself sick if their electrolytic balance is disturbed, specifies O’ Rourke.
She adds that the drinks énergisantes still pose greater risks.
“The association of a cafeine excess and badly known grasses can be dangerous”, to say O’ Rourke. Cafeine can also support the osseous calcium loss.
She explains why the mixture of the drinks énergisantes, with the stimulative properties, with alcohol, to the depressive properties – a tendency among accustomed night nightclubs and festivals – sends mixed messages to the nervous system, and that problems dependant in the middle could occur.
Do there exist other possibilities?
Our food mode provides us all that is necessary to our hydration, energy and acuity of spirit, explains O’ Rourke.
The sporting players can have recourse to water to prevent a dehydration and the fruits or the milks struck with the fruits to make glucid reserves and proteins which they need to support tiredness, still adds it.
Water and the complete feedingstuffs will make the deal for any other person, says it.
“Rich food, complete feedingstuffs, water a food mode balanced in fibers, proteins and fruits containing of antioxydants, gets the nutrients which you need to keep the sharp spirit and to feel you reinvigorated”.
