Treatment of the cancer of the skin.

Dynamic phototherapy calls upon a photosensitizing substance (causing a susceptibility of fabrics to certain lights) which is applied to the skin during a few hours before its exposure to a specific light (blue light or red).

The substance is applied to the skin in the form of a liquid or a cream which contains aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA-HCl) or the methyl aminolévulinate (BADLY). These photosensitizing substances are more particularly absorbed by sick fabrics and sébacées glands.

The exposure to the blue or red light is carried out with a special lamp which activates the substance which penetrated fabrics. The activation of the photosensitizing substance causes the specific destruction of the fabrics which absorbed it.

The Galderma laboratory markets cream-coloured Metvixia® in France, its use is indicated for the treatment of the actinic keratoses (précancéreuses keratoses), of surface baso-cellular carcinomes apart from the face and of the maldie of Bowen (carcinome épidermoïde intraepidermic). The Metvixia® cream is applied to the zone treated during three hours before lighting by red lights LED (Aktilite®). The protocol of treatment by Metvixia® is detailed on a separate card. Metvixia® is available recently in France. The essential interest of dynamic phototherapy with Metvixia® (MAL-PDT) is the treatment of the cancer of the skin, it practically allows elimination without scar of the précancéreuses lesions of the skin and certain cancers. This technique also makes it possible to treat several lesions simultaneously. One or more treatments can be necessary.

Laboratory DUSA markets Levulan Kerastic® in the United States and in Canada, it is about a liquid applied to the zone to treat during 12 to 4 p.m. before its activation by the blue light (BLU-U ®). Dynamic phototherapy with 5-ALA (ALA-PDT) is also used to destroy the actinic keratoses but also in the treatment of the acne and the field of esthetics (treatment of brown spots and the wrinkles). Levulan kerastick is not indicated for the treatment of cutaneous cancers.
