When your clothing protects you from the sun
To wear clothing is the best means of protecting its skin from the sun. But they all are not equivalent. To ensure a maximum protection, they must respect three criteria.
The recommendations are very clear as regards solar protection:
• Never of infant with the sun.
• Not to expose itself to the sun in a prolonged way
• Not to expose itself between 12 and 16 hours.
• To protect itself from UV by applying very regularly a sun lotion of index corresponding to its type of skin,
• To wear covering clothing as well as a cover-chief and a pair of glasses.
Concerning the cover-chief, it is necessary to privilege the hats on broad board because those will make it possible to protect the eyes, the face, the low neckline sometimes also, and the nape of the neck.
Of course, if this one is in straw, plus the holes are large and numerous, less this one will protect from UV. It is the same of clothing…
Which tee-shirt, which shirt to choose to protect itself from the sun?
Clothing represents the surest protection solar, most practical and least expensive. They protect from the UVA and UVB, but with the proviso of choosing them well:
Protection depends on the mesh. Thus, more weaving is tight and regular, less UV are transmitted.
Protection varies with the color, the darkest fabrics transmit less UV than clear fabrics.
Protection depends on moisture. Indeed, the wet fabrics transmit UV more dry clothing. Therefore a child who wears a tee-shirt wet in a swimming pool is not completely protected from UV.
For a maximum protection, it is thus to better avoid clothing in broad meshs, out of fabric of the type veils and the very clear colors. Finally to be wary of wet clothing, even if the weather is very hot.
An index of protection for clothing
An index of protection of fabrics or “Ultraviolet Protection Factor” (UPF) was defined for clothing with a European standard. To have a label of photoprotection, a clothing of the upper part of the body must cover the neck, the shoulders and the arms, and a clothing of the lower part of the body must cover belt with the knees. The textile must have a UPF higher than 4, with a transmission UVA lower than 5%.
It is important to know these councils because we all are likely to be exposed with the voluntary sun of manner or not and a more or less prolonged way: children, the people who carry on activities in the open air (professional, leisures, sportsmen…), etc
